Mold is a spreading obstacle that occupies a full tile on the game board. Dark fungal growth covers the space completely, blocking the tile until all Mold layers are destroyed.
Unlike passive blockers, Mold is a dangerous obstacle that can expand across the board if players fail to control it in time.
Main Features
A fungal Mold obstacle
Occupies one tile on the board
Cannot be moved
Can contain multiple layers
Requires multiple hits to destroy all layers
Can spread to nearby items
Items can fall into the tile after the Mold is fully destroyed
Considered a target for Bee abilities
Spread Mechanic
Mold continuously threatens to grow across the board. If no Mold tile is damaged or destroyed during a player’s turn, the Mold will spread to a nearby tile at the end of the move.
This spreading behavior can quickly block important areas and reduce available space, forcing players to prioritize Mold removal before it becomes overwhelming.
Destruction Rules
Mold can be damaged by creating Match-3 combinations adjacent to the infected tile. Nearby matches weaken the Mold layer by layer until it is completely removed.
Mold can also be destroyed using special effects, including:
Vertical Blast
Horizontal Blast
Bomb
Package
Color Bomb combinations
Each hit removes one layer of Mold. Stronger Mold tiles may require several attacks before being cleared completely.
Interaction with Bees
Mold is a valid target for Bee abilities. Bees can actively attack Mold tiles, helping players prevent further spreading and regain control of the board.
This interaction creates valuable strategic opportunities, especially in levels where Mold expansion becomes a major threat.
Gameplay Behavior
While active, Mold fully occupies its tile and prevents normal item placement. Once all layers are removed, the tile becomes empty and functions normally again, allowing new items to fall into the space naturally.
Because Mold can spread when ignored, it creates constant pressure and encourages players to balance offense, defense, and board management carefully.
Gameplay Purpose
Mold is designed to create urgency and long-term board pressure. Its spreading mechanic forces players to make strategic decisions and prioritize target clearing before the obstacle grows out of control.
The mechanic works especially well in levels focused on:
Board control
Expanding obstacles
Timed pressure
Area-clearing objectives
Strategic use of special pieces and Bees
