Ice Block is a layered freezing mechanic that covers an item on the game board. Thick layers of ice surround the item, preventing it from moving until all ice layers are completely broken.
The ice exists as a cover above the item and may contain multiple layers depending on the level design. While frozen, the item inside cannot be swapped, moved, or affected normally until the Ice Block is destroyed.
Main Features
A layer of ice positioned above an item
Can contain multiple layers
Keeps the item inside from moving
Requires multiple hits to fully destroy all layers
New items can fall into the tile
Not a target for Bee abilities
Destruction Rules
Unlike some blockers, Ice Block can be damaged through normal Match-3 gameplay. Players can break the ice by creating matches adjacent to the frozen tile.
Ice Block can also be destroyed using special effects, including:
Vertical Blast
Horizontal Blast
Bomb
Package
Color Bomb combinations
Each attack removes one layer of ice. Stronger Ice Blocks may require several hits before the frozen item is completely freed.
Gameplay Behavior
Although the item inside is locked in place while frozen, the tile itself still allows new items to fall into the board naturally when level mechanics require it. This makes Ice Block feel less restrictive than solid blockers while still creating an important challenge for the player.
Bee abilities do not target Ice Blocks, meaning players must rely on matches and special effects to remove them.
Gameplay Purpose
Ice Block adds a classic layered obstacle that encourages strategic matching and combo creation. Because it can be damaged through nearby matches, it rewards careful positioning and chain reactions.
The mechanic works especially well in levels focused on:
Clearing layered obstacles
Combo generation
Chain reactions
Board expansion mechanics
Progressive difficulty scaling
