Honey Coat is a sticky layered obstacle that covers an item on the game board. A golden layer of honey spreads over the item, creating a soft but persistent barrier that must be removed layer by layer.
Unlike solid blockers, Honey Coat does not completely trap the item underneath. The covered item can still be moved and swapped normally while the honey remains active.
Main Features
A honey layer positioned above an item
Can contain multiple layers
The item underneath can still move
Requires multiple hits to remove all layers
New items can fall into the tile
Considered a target for Bee abilities
Destruction Rules
Honey Coat can be damaged through normal Match-3 gameplay. Players can remove honey layers by making matches adjacent to or involving the coated item.
Honey Coat can also be destroyed using special effects, including:
Vertical Blast
Horizontal Blast
Bomb
Package
Color Bomb combinations
Each attack removes one layer of honey. Thicker Honey Coats may require several hits before they are completely cleared.
Interaction with Bees
Honey Coat is a valid target for Bee abilities. Bees can actively prioritize Honey Coat tiles, helping players clear layers more efficiently and open up the board faster.
This interaction creates strong synergy between Bee mechanics and layered obstacles, encouraging players to plan around Bee generation and movement.
Gameplay Behavior
Even while covered by Honey Coat, the item underneath remains interactive. Players can still move, swap, and use the item normally, making Honey Coat less restrictive than locking mechanics such as Ice Block or Vine Lock.
The tile also allows new items to fall naturally into the board, helping maintain board flow and combo opportunities.
Gameplay Purpose
Honey Coat introduces a lighter layered obstacle that adds progression without fully blocking gameplay. Since the covered item remains movable, players can continue creating matches while gradually clearing the honey layers.
The mechanic works especially well in levels focused on:
Continuous combo creation
Bee interactions
Layer-clearing objectives
Fast-paced gameplay
Multi-stage obstacle progression
